Atmore (AL) - Atmore Community Hospital (ACH) announced that it has begun using a new x-ray machine in its Radiology Department. The new dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) Prodigy system delivers with exceptional precision and low-dose radiation.

You can depend on Prodigy to provide precise data on soft tissue and bone composition, including bone-mineral density (BMD) and lean- and fat-tissue mass. At the same time, Prodigy streamlines patient care and practice workflow.

"The radiology department has been using the new machine for a few weeks now," stated Suzanne McGill, ACH Interim Hospital Administrator. "We wanted to ensure there were no issues between the new scanner and our new patient information system. It seems everything is functioning properly and we're ready to inform everyone it is operational."

According to GE, the Prodigy system offers uncompromising quality and efficiency. They state that Prodigy delivers detailed assessments which allow for proper analyzing of data and quicker patient reports. It boasts ability to create workflow efficiency through high speed connectivity and the Prodigy system is a result of over 30 years of innovation.

"We are very excited to have our new Prodigy system online and available for patient use," stated Brad Lowery, ACH Director of Operations. "Atmore Community Hospital is dedicated to providing the best possible service. This includes looking at improvements to products and services we offer to the community."

Officials stated that a physician must order the x-ray and that anyone who feels they need an x-ray should first consult their primary care physician. If you do not have a primary care physician, the hospital officials recommend the MedPlus Walk-in Clinic, go the Hospital Emergency Room or if extreme emergency to Call 911.
