Escambia County (AL) - Inaugural Atmore Community Hospital Breast Cancer 5K a Success

There were 70 participants lined up on Saturday, October 23 to participate in the first ever Atmore Community Hospital Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk. Tate Johnson was the overall winner with a time of 21:43.

"We had such a wonderful turnout," stated Alisha Stabler, ACH Radiology Manager. "We created the Breast Cancer 5K to spread awareness about the importance of getting your mammogram. We had no idea so many people would participate with only three weeks of planning. Next year we will have a lot more time to plan, so we expect it to be bigger and better."

Officials stated that they plan to make the 2022 ACH Breast Cancer Awareness 5K the morning of Williams Station Day. Planning will begin after the first of the year.

Winners were also awarded for finishing top of each age category as follows:
• 18 & Younger
o 1st Place - Tate Johnson - 21:43 2nd Place - Eli Norton - 23:05
• 19 - 54
o 1st Place - Elia Morales - 23:55 2nd Place - Buck Lane - 24:09
• 55 & Over
o 1st Place - Alan Ash - 26:16 2nd Place - Suzanne McGill - 27:27

In total, the inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness 5K raised more than $3,100 that will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. The event was made possible by the sponsorship of businesses and groups in the Atmore area.

"We are very excited at how successful this event turned out to be, especially given the time constraints this year. This would not have been possible without the hard work of numerous hospital staff and the willingness of this community to get involved by donating or participating in the event," stated Bradley Lowery, ACH Administrator. "Breast Cancer is something that has impacted far too many of our community members, and it was great to see so many engaged in an event aimed to raise awareness. We would like to thank all volunteers, donors, and participants for making this year a success and look forward to making this an annual event that continues to grow."
